Founded in the 18th century, the city of Pointe-à-Pitre is located at the junction between Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre, in the heart of the cul-de-sac bay. With its 16,000 inhabitants, it is the sub-prefecture of Guadeloupe, one of the two French overseas departments of the West Indies. The city offers a beautiful view on the Caribbean Sea and welcomes every 4 years the skippers of the Route du Rhum.
