The French Riviera refers to the coastline of Provence

The Côte d'Azur, also known as French Riviera, refers to the Provençal strip of the Mediterranean coastline. The name brings to mind sunny landscapes, the song of the cicadas, the sea, the creeks and the yachts of the stars. It is one of the favourite tourist destinations of the French for the beauty of its landscape as well as for its lively places to live.

The tour of the famous coastal cities

The Côte d'Azur is the favourite holiday destination of the French, but also of the stars. The city of Cannes is famous for its international film festival and its palaces, but also for the beauty of its narrow streets. Nice is also a destination made famous for its Promenade des Anglais. For a long time, Saint-Tropez was a holiday destination for the stars, especially in the 1960s and 1970s. Today, it has become the party place for the jet set. In the marinas and near the creeks, there are many yachts on which celebrities can be seen.

Discover the preserved natural areas

Although the Côte d'Azur is one of the most touristic coastlines in France, some areas are still preserved from construction and mass tourism. This is the case for most of the islands, such as Port Cros and Porquerolles, for example. This is also the case for the famous protected creeks which can be reached by hiking trails. Away from the coast, you will find the Mercantour Park, a mountainous massif and natural regional park, some of whose peaks reach an altitude of 3,000 metres. The Estérel is also a beautiful place to see.

Visit the surrounding area

The Côte d'Azur is famous for its beautiful beaches. But the region is full of real treasures, starting with the small surrounding villages and the picturesque landscapes of Provence. What could be more rejuvenating than walking through the cobbled streets of an old village in the shade of ancient houses, to the sound of the cicadas? Away from the coast, you can visit Grasse, the capital of perfume, or Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Rians for example.

For family holidays

For a convivial and lively stay with family or friends, the Gorges du Verdon, which we could have mentioned a little earlier among the preserved natural sites, offer an ideal setting. Many outdoor activities can be practised here, such as canoeing, rafting and climbing. There are also via ferrata or accrobranche courses for the more adventurous. Thrill-seekers will also find places to jump or climb. Near the coast, there are also many water parks.
